One particular approach to cultural representations is examined. This kind of approach, coming from to the epistemology of K. Popper, is conventionally classified as formalist and collectivist. Formalist because of its intellectualism, collectivist because of its idea of cultural data as "public objects". Its conceptual background is described in order to show how it does not provide causal explanation, but an intuitive understanding, of cultural things. Consequently, this kind of understanding is described in order to show that: a) in general, questions about explanation are also ontological questions, and b) this particular approach delete cultural objects as ontologically consistent.
