The characterizing procedures of historiographical activity and scientific activity are analyzed by the A. starting with arguments by the Italian Operative School. The principal hindrance to a univocal and explicit description of the two procedure is specified by the A. to be the theoretical-gnoseological assumptions. A clear difference between the two kinds of procedures can only spring from a model of the mental activity involved.
