The author discusses the notion of metaphor from an operational point of view, according to which no metaphor exists out of the actual transfer carried out by the speaker-listener in a certain situation. For the same expression, in fact, the transfer can executed or not depending on several factors, like the culture, the context, and, above all, the duration of mental operations.
